            The UG Department of Economics was established in the year 1993 and PG programme in 2004. This college is the only Government College in Kerala offering M.A. in Applied Economics. The Post graduate Department of Economics provide an ideal environment for hard work and academic achievement. Apart from regular lectures, the teaching-learning activities of the department include assignments, practical sessions, seminars etc. Exposure talks are frequently conducted and invited guest speakers supplement the intellectual input. The Department of Economics is proud that it has an excellent track record of high pass percentage for all the outgoing batches. Majority of them have secured good placement in public and private sector undertakings. 

     Courses in Economics will provide students the opportunity to develop the following skills

• Acquiring economic data from private and public sources and interpreting that data meaningfully
• Abstraction and the art of striking a balance between generality and relevance in problem solving
• Deductive argument, the ability to make one's assumptions explicit and to realize what the consequences of one's assumptions are
• Presenting economic relationships in graphical and mathematical form
