DEPARTMENT OF FUNCTIONAL ENGLISH
The Department of Functional English, founded in 2000, provides students with a comprehensive understanding of both the functional and linguistic aspects of the English language. It emphasizes practical English skills that enhance everyday communication, academic pursuits, and professional endeavours.
The curriculum offers a distinctive opportunity to explore contemporary topics in the field through courses such as Translation Studies, Theatre Studies, Media Studies, Film Studies, and Creative Writing. The B.A. in Functional English combines traditional literature with career-oriented English language skills, ensuring a well-rounded education.
With the introduction of the Four-Year Undergraduate Degree Programme in 2024, the department now offers a diverse array of courses, including Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC), Multi-Disciplinary Courses (MDC), Major and Minor Courses. These additions aim to deepen students' research capabilities, foster creative interventions, and enhance digital literacy.
