DEPARTMENT OF JOURNALISM
The Department of Journalism at EKNM Govt. College, Elerithattu, began as an auxiliary department to the Functional English department, providing complementary courses for Functional English students. Over time, it has expanded its scope to address the evolving needs of the media industry.
With the introduction of the Four-Year Undergraduate Degree Program (FYUGP) in 2024, the department now offers Journalism as a minor course and as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Course (MDC) to students from all disciplines. This expansion enriches the academic experience by integrating media and communication studies across various fields.
The Journalism courses equip students with essential skills in news reporting, media ethics, digital storytelling, and communication strategies. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of media’s role in society, preparing them for careers in journalism, public relations, content creation, and media management. The program emphasizes critical thinking, research, and digital literacy, ensuring students are well-prepared for the demands of the rapidly evolving media landscape.
