           Though the Department of Political Science came into being in the college with the commencement of B.A. Economics Programme (1993) offering Complementary Elective Courses, B.A. Political Science commenced from the academic year 2020-2021. The government has accorded sanction for starting the B.A. Political Science course in EKNM Government College, Elerithattu affiliated with Kannur University from the academic year 2020-21 as per the Government Order No. G.O. (Ms)No.31/2020/HEDN Dated 16/01/2020. Provisional affiliation to the B.A. Political Science programme (Complementary Courses- History & Economics) has been granted by the Kannur University as per the order No. Acad. A3/7526/2000 Dated 03-06-2020. Prior to 2024 admissions the department offered Core Courses to BA Political Science and Complementary Elective Courses for First and Second Semester B.A. Economics and Third and Fourth Semester B.A. Functional English and Open Course for Fifth-semester B.A./B.Sc./B.Com programmes. With the implementation of FYUGP (Four Year Under Graduate Programme), the department offers Discipline-Specific Courses (DSC) (Major & Minor courses) Discipline Specific Elective Courses (DSE), Internship, Research Project, Multi Disciplinary Courses (MDC) Value Added Courses (VAC) and Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC). The total sanctioned student intake is 40. The department began functioning as a major department on 02-11-2020.
